James Rosenquist (1933-2017)
James Rosenquist was a leading American Pop artist in the 1960s, alongside Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Claes Oldenburg. His commercial art background significantly influenced his fine-art career, helping to shape the Pop art movement with techniques and imagery from advertising. Rosenquist's work, drawing on his experience as a billboard painter, used print advertisements, photographs, and popular media to create bold, mysterious compositions. Over five decades, he excelled in painting, collage, drawing, and printmaking, with his art featured in major institutions such as the Guggenheim, MoMA, and the Whitney.
Condition: Good overall condition (Integrity and authenticity). Signs of age and wear.
Provenance: Galerie Ileana Sonnabend, Paris. Acquired from a private collection in Portugal. Ownership: Monginho Collection
