About
The 1968 exhibition of Gianni Colombo at Galleria L’Attico in Rome is a notable event in the history of kinetic art. This exhibition featured Colombo's "Spazio Elastico" (Elastic Space), a groundbreaking installation that transformed spatial perception through the use of elastic strings and ultraviolet light. The strings, coated in phosphorescent paint, were arranged in a grid pattern and were animated by motors, creating a dynamic environment that distorted the regular geometric shapes into a web-like structure.
This immersive installation played with viewers' perceptions, making them feel disoriented and altering their sense of space. The innovative use of materials and motion highlighted Colombo's interest in the interaction between the artwork and the observer, challenging traditional static art forms and pushing the boundaries of kinetic and programmed art.
Colombo's work in this exhibition was part of a broader movement known as Arte Programmata, which sought to incorporate technology and interactivity into art.
